About 15 minutes West of Kitchener/Waterloo is the small town of New Hamburg. For a community of just under 8,000 people, this town has a pretty bustling downtown. Several shops & restaurants grace the streets and a gorgeous park overlooking the Nith River is a nice place to spend a sunny afternoon. After poking my head into several stores and grabbing bites at many of the eateries, I have my top 4 stops to get to when in town:
- Imperial Market & Eatery – First of all, the food is great. You can’t go wrong with a classic selection like rotisserie chicken or smoked brisket for lunch or dinner. Their takeout options are a go-to for our family and brunch sounds amazing (need to try that soon!).
What really makes this place for me though is the décor and design of the restaurant. It has a vintage upscale farmhouse vibe going on. The open concept space keeps things inviting and approachable in contrast to some of the finer architectural details. Rustic wooden pantry shelves help display local goods for sale and balance out all the traditional elements. The generous amount of beautiful chandeliers making this place feel warm. A lovely and cozy place to dine!
- Riverside Flowers & Gift Studio – I must admit I have driven by this store several times with no intention of going in. But last time I was in town I walked by and finally peeked in the windows and was pleasantly shocked. Inside was not just a beautiful flower shop, but also an amazing collection of home décor and gift items. Wall hangings, blankets, pillows, vases and more. A curated collection of beautiful items just waiting to grace your space!
- Sweets by Too Nice To Slice – This place is cute cute cute! Clean white and warm wood surround displays of fresh baked goods. Enjoy a seat at the large harvest table enjoying a cup of coffee with your slice of pie, cupcakes, cookie or square. The whisk pendants are a nice whimsical touch to the other vintage items in this classic bake shop. They even sell some gorgeous wooden signs to take home with you!
- Is this Chair Taken – Located at the main corner of downtown, this shop has some unique gift and home items perfect for that hard to buy person on your list. With the holidays approaching, this place should be a stop on your list for accessories, wall hangings, candles and other goods. Just look for the retro sign and bright yellow door out front!
There are many other great places to see so be sure to take a look around town. Check back soon to see the next town we tour. Do you know a town or shop you think I should check out – message me and let me know!
